Condolences

From Ralph Paoli, on Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Curt – I will always remember you for your smile, your offers to help out, to borrow me anything you have, your ability to listen, meat smoking tips, where the deer are, hunting tips, how to catch fish on the Brule, your pizza parties, and your company.

One of the highlights of coming up to our hunting camp, was to stop by and visit with you and your brother Terry. It was fall tradition. You will be missed by all of us at Bois Brule Deer Camp, by my son Jason and my Grandsons Samuel and Owen. You were an important figure in their life.

Your passing has been heartbreaking for all of us that knew and loved you.

I extend my sincere and deepest sympathy to Sharon, your son Jason and grand-daughter, your daughter Connie and family, your brothers Terry and Keith, and your sisters Judy and Darlene.

Curt, it has been an honor and a privilege for me to have been your friend. Someday we will meet again, hopefully you will have scouted out a good spot for me.

From Julie (Schoch) Bach, on Thursday, August 25, 2011

Dave, Carol, Liane, Lynette, Lori & families: To say that Oz will truly be missed hardly begins to express the deep emotions many feel for the man who loved to call Glidden his home. Knowing David would be “home” during virtually any trip I took back to Glidden made coming home so much more memorable for me. He encompassed that feeling of “Glidden” for me, that feeling of knowing “I’m home”. I’ve known Oz as a cousin, a classmate, a friend, an entertainer, a conversationalist, a gentle soul, and a sincere and lovable man. I’ve had the greatest privelege of having him in my life and getting to know the good man he grew to be. There is no doubt in my mind that during this most difficult time, he is looking down upon his beloved family and keeping watch over you all. You son and your brother is now your guardian angel in Heaven whom you shall meet again some day. May God be with you and bring you peace in your grieving; and may you rest assured knowing that all of David ‘s many friends and extended family will be with you to share their fondest memories of him…. My deepest sympathies to all of you, Julie Bach

-

From Daniel and Susan Willerth, on Friday, August 26, 2011

The “Why” is always the puzzle when tragedy strikes. Why did this happen? Why to David? We seldom, if ever have any meaningful answer. But we do not have control over what might be in store for others, or for ourselves. We can only take comfort in knowing that this incident was part of a greater plan that will in some way influence us and the rest of the world.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Dave, Carol, Leann and Lynette, as well as the rest of the family, and pray that the strength and peace of the Lord will be with you through this difficult time. May God bless at keep you, mya His light shine upon you and give you peace.

From Bob and Tanya Thompson and Family, on Monday, August 29, 2011

Dave, Carol and Family,

We are truly sorry for your loss. We were so sad to learn the news of David, “Oz”. We are not from Glidden but come up as often as we can and Oz welcomed us the first day we were there and we considered him a friend from that day on.

I was up at the Cabin a few years back with some of my friends and we had been out on 4-wheelers and it got late. Oz was worried we may not know our way back. He followed us home to make sure we got there safely. I’ll never forget that. He was just that type of person and we were proud to be his friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your memories of such a special person keep you close to him.

Condolences

From Lisa Joanis Teman, on Monday October 17, 2011

Dear Aunt Pat, Uncle Jerry, Cousin Ryan, and Mary Ann

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your dear Dad and Grandfather. Although we didn’t know him well, we know how much he meant to you all and how special a person he was. We, too, wish he could have made it to that “official” 100th birthday but, in our minds, he was close enough that it COUNTS! It’s so good that you were with him; to be there to celebrate his life and share his last days with him — I’m sure that meant more than any of us can know.

We send you our heartfelt condolences.

Much love and peace to you and the rest of the family.

Love,

Lisa, Eric & Shane

From Tom and Julie Marincel, on Friday, March 12, 2010

Please except our deepest sympathy on the loss of Sally. I sold Avon to her many years ago, and she was a tough customer, never sure if she wanted what she had ordered. But that was her way, for she became a good customer of mine, and even after I no longer sold Avon, when I saw her she always greeted me with a smile and sometimes a hug. She was a very nice and warm person. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

My sympathy to the family of Sally Opalich Somppi. Sally’s mother Mary Sarich Opalich was a long time neighbor of my grandmother Matilda Grubisic before Mary’s death. Because one of Mary’s granddaughters is a close friend, and because I enjoyed the family stories of Ray Bailen, Sally’s half brother, I have done a lot of genealogical research on the Bailen and Sarich families, who both came to Wisconsin from Croatia before World War One. All that is a long time ago now but I wanted to express my sympathy for their loss to Sally’s c hildren and grandchildren. I hope their happy memories of Sally will help carry them thru this time of grieving.

From Nancy Raspotnik Walker, on Tuesday, January 25, 2011

I am deeply saddened to read of Mr. Stangle’s passing. He was an inspiration to all of us who took band at Ondossagon. His talent and patience made him a great teacher. I remember our trips to Duluth to march in the Christmas City of the North parades. At times it was so cold that the reed on my clarinet froze, but we always made it. I know that he will tooting his horn in heaven. One great man.

Sincerely,

From Dan and Sara Heisler, on Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Our condolences on the loss of your father and grandfather. Stan was a great neighbor. We particularly remember him playing “Happy Birthday” to our son Ed on his fluegelhorn early on his birthday mornings as a preschooler. He loved the rye bread I brought him after Verna died, and when I brought it to the back door, he would make heavenly gestures and then tell me, “This will go in a special hiding place so no visitors find it!”

We were lucky to have Stan and Verna as good neighbors, and we still bring them up in conversations. Please know we are keeping your family in our prayers now.

Sincerely,

Dan and Sara Heisler

From Anna Komanecki (Tolliver), on Wednesday, January 26, 2011

My sincere condolences to the family. I can remember Mr. Stangle, as clear as if it were yesterday, walking down Second Street with us in the Middle School Band. We were so proud of ourselves and it was because of his fantastic ability to direct a band of youngsters. He was kind and caring. He was also “no nonsense” which is why we were so good! And we all understood that… a rarity indeed. I remember the high school band members coming up to us middle schoolers after the parade was finished saying how much better we were than they. They were right and he was a great man and I’ve never forgotten him. God’s blessings to you. –

From David Werner, MD., on Friday, January 28, 2011

I attended Ondossagon High School from ’57 to ’61. I played trumpet in the band and pep band. Mr. Stangle did his best to have those of us in the marching band play and march with our heads up and looking straight ahead. That was hard for us to do because we practiced on the road in front of the school that was shared by cattle going to and from their pasture. No way were we going to step in a cow pie! Good memories. Dave Werner,

From Audrey Holt-Grosnick, on Monday, February 7, 2011

My sympathies in the passing of “Mr Stangle”. I attended Ondossagon and played clarinet in the band. So I remember the concerts, the pep band and marching in parades. The music program was an important part of my education.

I knew your Mom before you were born as your parents were best friends and golf partners of my parents. There was a strong bond between Kathleen Steinmetz and Janet Theno for many decades. In fact, when my mother passed away in 1997 the first person my brother and I called with the news was your mom.
Our prayers are with you and your families. Thank God that you had such a wonderful mother.
I know my mom is happy. She got her golf partner back

From Brett Martinsen, on Thursday, February 7, 2013

If I was asked which neighbor I felt made an impact on my life, I would say Therese! I always felt welcome into her house, I enjoyed the great conversations that We would have about her ice skating and being a great bowler. I also will never forget her garden! although in the recent years it has grown smaller, she still was in the garden every day! I will miss the letters that she sent me at college, I really enjoyed the great updates that she would include, and the dollar for a cold can of coke. yes I will miss her dearly, but I know that she will be gardening in the sky, and she probably has people lined up to play her in cribbage!

May you rest in Peace Therese,

My condolences to her huge family!

Theresa Doll Baby! This is what I called her when I was little. She was our second Mother on many occassions. What a wonderful lady. I have many memories of Theresa and the family living across the alley. When she would baby sit for us she would ask each of us kids what we wanted for dinner and if they were all different she would make each!! I remember outings to the cabin on Lake Owen. She would send Traci and I a wedding anniversary card almost every year. She will be missed!

Deepest Sympathy to the Family!

Bob and I were shocked to read in today’s Press about the passing of dear Dodie. I enjoyed her so much at our Monday Club meetings and events. Bob and I attended Dodie and David’s 50th Anniversary and had such a good time. They both were such nice people…and now are joined together in heaven. Dodie will be missed by all her Monday Club friends. She was such an active member and worked so hard on the Christmas Bake Sale and New Day Shelter Shower. I was going to phone her this week just to check up on her…now she has passed away and I will surely miss her so much. May God bless her family. She always talked about them and about her dog “Buttons”. With our deepest sympathy. Bob and Shirley Meredith –

From Eddie and Michelle, on Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Please do not stay too long in this place of sorrow

For your loved one will not understand

The essence of who she is will always be with you

Carrie is at peace, true peace, no more burdens, no more sorrows…just soft quiet gentle peace.

Instead, rejoice in the knowing that you had many wonderful loving moments together. A lifetime of stories to be told.

Be ever grateful, for the Creator gave you these moments..to share with friends and family.

Speak Carrie’s name and tell all the stories and give respect to your loved one with laughter and joy…for you know Carrie brought happiness to all who shared in her life.

Seek peace..She is there.

Seek laughter…She is there.

Seek love…She is there.

For one day you will be united again…

We can’t tell you how sorry we are for loss…I know the pain right now is unbearable, but I promise it will get better…Carrie was our co-worker, jokester, confidante, but mostly our true friend and we’re gonna miss her. Peace to you and your family.

From Ranae Peltonen, on Tuesday, March 19, 2013

To the family of Carrie Sue Suminski: My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to husband Steve, and Mom & Dad of Carrie. I been working with Carrie for almost 9 yrs. at Hotel Chequamegon. She became a great teacher to me. Between Carrie & Kelly, we had many laughs together, sometimes Carrie was a bit harsh on me but I probably had it coming. That’s what made me become a better employee for the Hotel. We always had good times on our birthdays, mine was a day after Carrie”s. I’ll miss her coming to work dressed in her Packer clothes, or Santa hat, any holiday, Carrie didn’t miss to dress up for. And we can’t forget her orange when she went out deer hunting. I tried to comfort Carrie before any trip she had to Minneapolis, and all she would say is, “I’ll see you when I get back”! But, she went too fast, and I will miss her dearly!! LOVE YOU CARRIE, and may you rest in peace. Ranae M Peltonen
