Alice G. Lahti
Alice G. Lahti, age 90, formerly of Oulu, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, in Glendale, Arizona.
Alice was born, on February 29, 1920, in Washburn, Wisconsin, the daughter of Hjalmar and Amelia (Boriin) Frostman. She and Oscar U. Lahti were united in marriage, in Duluth, Minnesota, on August 12, 1940. She worked at Midland Services, in Ashland, for many years; then, after moving to Glendale, she worked several years, at the Safeway stores. Alice always enjoyed baking, her beautiful flower gardens, and she thoroughly enjoyed her grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Alice is survived by: her daughter, Kathleen (Thomas) Payne, of Glendale; a grandson, Steven (Michelle Lavin) Kane and their two children: Mylii and Denon; a grandson, Max (Laura) Kane and his four children: Tiffany, Allison, Madeline and Emily; one brother, Ted, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; one sister, Dorothy, of Iron River, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; six brothers: Francis, Fred, Ray, Vernon, Lloyd and Kenneth; two sisters, Amy and Violet.
A visitation, for family and friends, will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in Iron River, and will continue until the hour of the service.
Funeral services, for Alice, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in Iron River. Reverend Kristina Jensen will officiate.
Interment will be in the Pine Glade Cemetery, Oulu.

Edgar F. Lajeunesse
Edgar F. Lajeunesse, age 87, of 104 7th Avenue East, Ashland, Wisconsin, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Golden Living Center-Court Manor, in Ashland.
Edgar was born, on March 2, 1922, in Norway, Michigan, the son of Prudance and Mary (Rabatoy) Lajeunesse. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served during World War II, from 1941 to 1945. He and Rose P. Jendrzejewski were united in marriage, in Ironwood, Michigan, on November 26, 1960. He was an utility man for Excel Energy, for over 15 years. He enjoyed putting puzzles together and spending time with his family.
Survivors include: Rose, his wife of 48 years; and their three children, Mary Uphoff and her husband, Alan, of Morris, Minnesota; Edgar Lajeunesse and his wife, Michelle, of Kansas City, Missouri; and Francis Lajeunesse and his wife, Lorraine, of Verndale, Minnesota. Edgar is also survived by: 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Virginia Bergwall of Niagara, Wisconsin, and Celia Lajeunesse; nieces and nephews.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Prudance and Mary; two sisters; one brother and one grandchild.
A visitation, from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, will feature: military honors, by the United Chequamegon Area Veterans, at 7 p.m., and a prayer service, at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial, for Edgar, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. Father Henry V. Willenborg, O.F.M., will be the celebrant. His casket bearers will include: Shawn Hinshaw, Sheldon Hinshaw, Alan Uphoff, Edgar Lajeunesse, Dalton Luepke and Francis Lejeunesse.
Interment in the Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland, will follow the mass.

Gene E. Lamberton
Gene E. Lamberton, age 81, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at his home, in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Gene was born, on August 27, 1929, in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Lee and Anna (Thurmann) Lamberton. He attended schools in Racine. He and Mary Alice Allen were united in marriage, in Racine, on August 29, 1953. Gene served four years in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986. He and Mary Alice moved to Waupaca, Wisconsin, in 1989, and to Ashland, in 2001.
Survivors include: Mary Alice, of Ashland, his wife of 57 years; and his daughters: Jane (Scott) Warren, of Ashland; and Nora (Dennis) Schumacher, of Waukesha, Wisconsin. Gene is also survived by: four grandchildren: Alisa (Grant) Kolwitz, Jenna Warren, Taylor Schumacher, and Sam Schumacher; two sisters: Jeanette (William) Moebius, and Patricia Schroeder, all of Racine; nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by: his parents and one brother, William.
A gathering, for family and friends, will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland, and continue until the hour of service.
A memorial service, for Gene, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland. Dr. Darrel M. Robertson will officiate. Military honors, under the auspices of the United Chequamegon Area Veterans, of Ashland, will immediately follow the service.

Marilyn J. Larson
Marilyn J. Larson, age 77, died on Monday, December 21, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family, in her Ashland, Wisconsin home, that she loved.
Marilyn was a member of the DePadua High School 1950 graduating class. She and John ‘Jack’ Larson were united in marriage on November 3, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1992. Marilyn worked at: Munsingwear, Lake Superior Elementary School, Frankies Pizza and Bea’s Estate Sales. She was a devoted employee, always doing more than was expected of her. She especially treasured the life long friendships she developed with the people with whom she worked.
Marilyn was a woman of faith: A member of the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, of Ashland. In addition to her busy life with her family, she was an avid community volunteer.
Marilyn enjoyed the beauty of the world around her. She also enjoyed: cooking, canning, and sharing those treats with others. She was known for her legendary baking skills, making some of the best pies and cookies around.
Marilyn was a person who cared for everyone, helping those in need in any way she could. She loved people and they loved her. She always found the good in people and treasured the time she spent visiting and laughing with her many wonderful friends. She found wealth in the many people in her life and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her memorable trips with Pat, annual garage sales, Christmas parties with her family and friends, and her antics as part of the Three Amigos were all part of her life’s treasures.
She especially loved being a mother to her children, grandma to her grandchildren, and great grandma to her great grandchildren, who meant the world to her. Marilyn was a devoted mother to her six children, spending her whole life loving each of them and sharing her time and talents with them and their children.
Although Marilyn will be sorely missed, family and friends will be comforted by their many wonderful memories. It would be Marilyn’s wish that you always remember what is important and to treasure those special people in your life. Take time to be there for people and to live and love life to the fullest.
Survivors include: her six children: Susan Wiberg and her husband, Ron, of Ashland; Rebecca Houle and her husband, Dale, of Ashland; Stephen Larson, of Orlando, Florida; Timothy Larson, of Waunakee, Wisconsin; Jon Larson, of Ashland; and Robert Larson, of Ashland. She was further blessed with: six grandchildren: Chris ‘C.J.’ Houle; Duane Wiberg; Jeremy Wiberg and his wife, Amanda; Michael Larson; Eric Larson; and Hannah Larson; and four great grandchildren: Cody, Colten, Caden and Maddisen. Marilyn is also survived by: her two loving sisters: Jan Lewis and Jeri Larson, both of Ashland; her sister in law, Neosha Demask, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; a special ‘adopted’ daughter, Patti (Chuck) Skoraczewski, of Washburn, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special canine friend, Daisy.
Marilyn was preceded in death by: her husband, Jack; their infant son, John David; a grandson, Nicholas Larson; her parents, Ben and Susan Demask; her brother, Roy Demask; special brothers in law: Dean Lewis and Harry H. Larson; as well as other special family and friends.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland, beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, December 26, 2009, continuing until the hour of the service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. Father Paul Paré, O.F.M., will be the Celebrant.
Interment will be in the Saint Agnes Cemetery, in Ashland, at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Ray R. Latvamaki
Ray R. Latvamaki, age 66, of North York, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in his home.
Ray was born, on March 11, 1944, in Fort Benning, Georgia, the son of Raymond R. and Bertha M. Latvamaki. He was employed, by LTV Steel/Erie Mining, for over 32 years. He was an avid volunteer at the Big Top Chautauqua every year and enjoyed motorcycling.
Survivors include: his children: Raymond “Justin” of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota; daughters: Kim Latvamaki of Coon Rapid, Minnesota and Kari (Steve) Stringer of Hayfield, Minnesota and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside committal service for Ray will take place, in the Maple Grove Cemetery, in Marengo, Wisconsin, at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010.

Marvin Theodore Lawver
Marvin Theodore Lawver, age 60 of Merrill, Wisconsin, formerly Mellen, Wisconsin, died on Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Aspirus Hospital, in Wausau, Wisconsin, surrounded by his loving family.
Marv was born, on May 20 1948, in Ashland, Wisconsin, the son of Theodore and Elizabeth (Fischer) Lawver. He grew up and spent the majority of his life in and aroung Mellen. His recent years were spent in Merril, but, at the time of his death, he was making plans to move back to Mellen. Marv attended school in Mellen and graduated with the class of 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, at the age of 18, and served 18 months in Korea. He was a truck driver for the majority of his adult life and owned and operated his own trucking business for many of those years.
Marv enjoyed bouncing his grand children on his knee and sharing the many tales of his life with them. He was a great story teller, most of them filled with his quick wit and humor, which he carried to the end. His greatest joy was rising early, grabbing a cup of coffee and heading outdoors to watch the sun rise and enjoy the tranquility of the morning, even during the winter months. His grandsons have all come to know that ‘break time’ from a job is a necessity. It means coffee and donut holes, a tradition that will live on with them forever. His granddaughters will remember him for his: “there’s my pretty girl” greetings and big old grandpa hugs. We will all remember his trademark: a cup of coffee in one hand, and a cigarette in the other; his big, kind heart and great wit.
Survivors include: his three children: Tina Jenness of Ladysmith, Wisconsin; Jason Lawver and his wife, Miranda, of Mellen, Wisconsin; and Tammy Scribner and her husband, Jeff, of Rockford, Minnesota; and six grandchildren, Dylan and Hayden Lawver, Casey and Tommy Jenness and Bradly and Abby Scribner. He is also survived by his partner, Kay Krenze of Merrill, Wisconsin and her children; the mother of his children and lifelong friend, Gwen Lawver and her husband, Heinzen, of Mellen, Wisconsin. Other survivors include his siblings: Leo Lawver and his wife, Judy, of Ashland, Wisconsin; Robin Lawver and his wife, Linda, of Mellen; Gloria Lawver of Mellen; Alice Tafelski and her husabnd, Ed, of Mellen; Betty Davis of Michigan; his brother-in-law, Don White and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, in 1989 and 1969; one grandson, Alan Hanson, in 1991; his brothers: Lawrence, and James; and two sisters: Joyce and Mary.
A visitation, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Mellen, will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2008, and continue until the hour of service.
A funeral service, for Marv, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Mellen. Reverend James Imse will officiate.
Interment, in the Cayuga Cemetery, Cayuga, Wisconsin, will follow the church service. Military honors will be performed by the Copper Falls V.F.W. Post, number 2273, of Mellen.
At Marv’s request, his first born grandson, Alan, will be laid to rest with him.

Helen J. Lebel
Helen J. Lebel, age 75, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Badger Prairie Care Center, in Verona, Wisconsin.
Helen was born, on February 19, 1933, in Houghtan, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph W. and Viola (Boutin) LeBel. VIola died when Helen was one week old. Her father married Rose Yudolhofen, who was a mother to Helen. Helen attended the school for the deaf in Delavan, Wisconsin. When her father died, in 1968, Helen took a job at a laundry in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and then worked in the laundry at a hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, until 1995.
Survivors include: her sister, Jean Storrs, of Chicago, Illinois; two aunts: Harriet LeBel, of Mason, Wisconsin, and Laura LeBel, of Park Falls, Wisconsin.
Helen was preceded in death by: her parents: Joseph, Viola and Rose; her uncles: Lawrence, Francis and Ervin LeBel; aunts: Adelene Winslow, Virginia Sundquist, Miralda Peterson and Lorraine Sharp.
A visitation, for family and friends, at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, Wiscosnsin, will begin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009, and continue until the time of the service.

William Lee
William Lee, age 82, of 128 West Bennett Avenue, Mellen, Wisconsin, died on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the Park Manor Nursing Home, in Park Falls, Wisconsin.
Bill was born, on March 31, 1926, in Chisholm, Minnesota, the son of Robert E. and Winifred H. (Dolan) Lee. He left Mellen, following his junior year of high school, to work in the shipyards, of Vancouver, Washington. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, when he was 18 and served, from 1944 to 1946, in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war, Bill came back to Mellen and completed high school, graduating with the class of 1947, and attended U.W. LaCrosse. He worked in various jobs in the Great Lakes region, including iron working at several sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. In 1958, Bill became the first Democrat to be elected Sheriff of Ashland County in over 50 years. While in office, Bill had the distinct opportunity of meeting then President, John F. Kennedy, his wife, Jacqueline, and his two brothers, Robert and Teddy. After two terms as Sheriff, he was appointed Postmaster in Mellen, a position he held for over 25 years, retiring in 1987.
Bill volunteered in many civic activities including: the Mellen V.F.W. and the Mellen baseball team. He was especially proud of his role as Commander of the local V.F.W. He actively recruited new members to help sustain the organization. In 1968, Bill was instrumental in reviving the Mellen city baseball team, which, over the next five years, won four Upper 13 baseball championships. This past summer, he was thrilled to participate in the 40 year anniversary of the baseball team. He was, in addition to his love of the Mellen city team, an avid Detroit Tigers fan and spent many hours watching and listening to their games. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and was the founding member of ‘Walleye Willie’s Hunting Camp’, where his family ate many meals, gathered around the table enjoying his homemade pasties and apple pies. Friends regularly gathered at the camp on Friday nights, to play poker and enjoy good fellowship. The greatest joy in his life was his family. Bill enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
Bill and Katherine M. Fisher were united in marriage, in Mellen, on October 15, 1955. Survivors include: Kay, his wife of 53 years; and their children: Susan Turney and her husband, Peter, of Monona, Wisconsin; Mary Joan Lundquist and her husband, David, of Mellen; Randy Lee and his wife, Bonnie, of Mellen; Tammy Garnett and her husband, Tom, of Pine City, Minnesota; Timothy Lee and his wife, Leslie, of Mellen; Gregory Lee and his wife, Michelle, of Mellen and Christopher Lee and his wife, Brenda, of Mellen. Bill is also survived by: twenty grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Sullivan, of Jackson, Mississippi and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by: his parents, Robert and Winifred; one son and many brothers and sisters.
A gathering, for family and friends, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Mellen, resume at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, and continue until the time of the Mass.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, for Bill, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Mellen. Father Dean Buttrick will be the celebrant. Military honors, by Copper Falls VFW Post #2273, will follow the mass.
A memorial fund is being established in Bill’s name.

Edwin A. ‘Ed’ Lensing
Edwin A. ‘Ed’ Lensing, age 85, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011, in his of Glidden, Wisconsin, residence. Ed was born on December 7, 1926, in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Joseph A. and Anna (Borman) Lensing.
Ed served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He and Violet C. Rakovich were united in marriage, in Westmont, Illinois, on May 28, 1954. He owned and operated the family hardware business in Illinois before moving the business to Glidden. He retired in 1983.
Survivors include: his children: Arilla (Harold ‘Junior’) Gibbs, of Stockton, Alabama; Kurt Lensing, of Alaska; and Joanne Lensing, of Green Bay, WI; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by: his wife, Violet (on Jan 12, 2000); his grandson, Justin; his parents; and his sister, June.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Glidden, beginning at 10a.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011, and continuing until the hour of service.
Funeral Services, for Ed, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Glidden. Reverend Stanley Bahn will officiate.
Interment, in the Greenwood Cemetery, Morse, Wisconsin, will immediately follow the service at the Church. Military Honors will be provided by Glidden Chippewa VFW Post 7300, of Glidden.

Lucille T. ‘Lou’ LePlavy, age 91 of East Troy, Wisconsin, formerly Ashland, Wisconsin, found peace on Wednesday, August 13, 2008.
She was born September 6, 1916, in Ashland, the daughter of Stanley and Veronica (Glinski) Raczkowski.
Lucille was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many people. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include: her daughter, Margery A. Hansen of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Bryan Miller; Russell Miller and his wife, Angie; Sara Miller; and Matthew Hansen and his wife, Tina; and her great granddaughter, Rachel Luann Miller.
Lucille was preceded in death by: her parents, Stanley and Veronica; her son, Robert Carlson; her husbands, Ralph Carlson and Jack LePlavy; two sisters, Angeline Phillips and Genevieve Thompson; and three brothers, Edward, Leonard and Joseph Raczkowski.

Violet Levandoski, age 79, of Drummond, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2010, at the Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Violet was born, on May 19, 1931, in Mason, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Alma (Carlson) Nelson. She and Philip Levandoski, Jr, were united in marriage on March 17, 1947. She was a homemaker.
At Vi’s request, there will be no formal funeral or visitation. She would rather her family and friends try to remember her as she lived the quiet country life in her home in rural Drummond. A private family burial will take place on a later date.

Sally L. Linenfelser, age 82, of Mellen, Wisconsin, went to be with our Father, in Heaven, on Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland, Wisconsin.
She was born Sally Loretta Doyle, in Chicago, Illinois, on September 15, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Loretta (Doyle) Ahlers. At the age of 3, she and her mother moved to Glidden, Wisconsin. Later they moved to Clam Lake, Wisconsin. Sally attended Clam Lake School and Glidden Public School.
Sally and Clarence Linenfelser were united in marriage on February 19, 1952.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Clarence; their daughter Sandy; parents and a special friend, Robert Scribner.
Sally is survived by her dear friend, Susan (Richard) Jahn and their children, Charles and Steven, who she spent many happy hours with. She is also survived by: Bob Scribner, Jr.
She enjoyed her poodles, and her chickens, doing crossword puzzles, and playing cards. One of her greatest joys was watching wildlife and she was particularly adept at identifying bird calls. Sally was a true nature lover and was kind to all animals.
She’ll be missed by her many friends.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Mellen, beginning at 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, continuing until the hour of the service.

Agnes ‘Aggie’ Therese Liska
Agnes ‘Aggie’ Therese Liska, age 79, of Moquah, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009, in the Aspirus Hospital, in Wausua, Wisconsin, surrounded by family.
Agnes was born, on September 20, 1930, in Poughkeepsie, New York, the daughter, and eldest of the eight children, of the late Thomas and Mary (Motel) Hecmovich. She was a member of the 1948 De Pudna High School graduating class and continued her education at Ashland County Normal. Aggie was a school teacher in Oulu, Wisconsin.
She and Albert John Liska were united in marriage, at Saint Agnes Church, in Ashland, on November 8, 1952. They moved to the Liska family farm, near Moqua, Wisconsin, where they farmed together until Albert’s death, on July 11, 1984. From then until her retirement, Agnes worked at Economart and Court Manor Nursing Home. Aggie will be deeply missed for her kind and gentle heart.
Survivors include: her eight children: Yvonne Liska, of Wausau; Janine Liska, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mary Jo Liska, of Washburn, Wisconsin; Gail Norton and her husband, Charles, of Fairchild, Wisconsin; Lori Olson and her husband, Roger, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Dennis Liska and his wife, Ruth, of Minneapolis; Jennifer Liska, of Wausau; and Deanne Liska, of Milwaukee; and seven grandchildren: Breanna Norton, Alyssa Norton, Trent Norton, Timothy Halbrooks, Julianna Halbrooks, Jonathan Liska and Alex Liska . Aggie is also survived by: her four sisters: Genevieve Marincel, of Ashland; Shirley Kinney and her husband, Donald, of Mason, Wisconsin; Carol Witek and her husband, Fred, of Janesville, Wisconsin and Dorothy Budiach and her husband, John, of Mason; and two brothers: Donald Hecmovich and his wife, Linda; of Ashland and Thomas Hecmovich and his wife, Gladys, of Ashland; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Albert; her parents, Thomas and Mary Hecmovich; two sisters: Marion Noble and infant sister, Yvonne Hecmovich.
A visitation, for family and friends, will begin at noon Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Moqua and continue until the hour of the service.
A Mass of Christian Burial, for Agnes, will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Moquah. Father Michael Crisp will be the Celebrant. The casket bearers will be: Roger Olsen, Charles Norton, Trenton Norton, John Budiash, Timothy Halbrooks and Dennis Liska.
Interment, in the Old National Cemetery, in Moquah, will immediately follow the Mass.

Eugene K. Liske
Eugene Kenneth ‘Gene‘. Liske, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, in his rural Glidden, Wisconsin home, following a long battle against lung fibrosis.
Gene was born on January 20, 1942, in West Allis, Wisconsin, the son of Paul J. and Doris A. (Hardtke) Liske. He was the youngest son of nine children. He and Pauline Dockerty were united in marriage on February 12, 1966.
Gene is survived by: his wife, Pauline Liske, of Glidden; one daughter, Eva Jean (Craig) Kortness; two grand daughters: Samantha Liske, of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and Mikayla Sue Rose Kortness, of Glidden; his brothers: Robert Liske, of Lake Mills, Wisconsin; and Ralph Liske, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; many: nieces, nephews and friends.
Gene was the owner of GLC Construction and a partner in United Craftsmen, Inc., of Deforest, Wisconsin. He served in the Air Force, was former member of the Lions Club, Partners in Time Restoration, Sportsman Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Club, White Tails Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and was a volunteer fireman in Hubertus, Wisconsin.
Gene’s greatest passions in life were: being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, raising his daughter and building his home. When he wasn’t working with his hands around the house, he was working on someone else’s, making other people’s dream a reality. He was known for his mastery of building anything, the more challenging the more excited he was to build it. He wore his laugh lines like a well worn suit, the favorite outfit in the closet! He could fix anything from a car to a roller skate, from a broken lock to a little girl’s skinned knee. He loved hunting, and fishing, which he passed on to his family and the foster children he took in. He was a: tough task master, a loving father, a tenacious business partner, a gentle grandpa, a faithful friend, a wonderful teacher, and a deeply spiritual man who revered the Bible as God’s Word and taught it to others.
A gathering, for family and friends will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, N 9341 State Highway 13, Phillips, Wisconsin, beginning at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012, and continuing until the hour of the service.
A memorial service, for Eugne Liske, will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, N 9341 State Highway 13, Phillips, Wisconsin.

Dorothy M. (MacDonald) Litersky, age 90, was born to eternal life on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Northern Lights Health Care Center, in Washburn, Wisconsin.
Dorothy was born, in Ashland, Wisconsin, on April 12, 1921, the daughter of Wallace L. and Mae (Dormady) MacDonald. Dorothy graduated from DePadua High School in 1939. She attended and graduated from Gordon’s Business College in Ashland. She and Arnold W. Litersky were united in marriage, in Duluth, Minnesota, on August 8, 1941.
Dorothy was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. Her life was devoted to raising and caring for her seven children. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting stamps, family history and crafts.
Dorothy is survived by: her seven children: Patrick (Jeanne) Litersky, Bernadette (Emery) Blakely, Margaret (Joe) Kmetz, Peter (Patricia) Litersky, Jane Mika (George Mika), Elizabeth (Rockie) Kavajecz, and Edward (Dianne) Litersky; her 15 grandchildren: Ann and Catherine Litersky, Nicole (David) Domagala, Amy (Phil) Grenier, Peter Jr. (Sara) and Clara Litersky, Jennifer Mattson, Brenda (Josh) Rowley, Timothy (Becky) Mika and Andrew Mika, Luke (Laura) and Elsa Kavajecz, Arnie, Anthony and Jonathon Litersky; her 15 great-grandchildren: David, Angela, Sophie, Charles, Trevor, Calvin, Olivia, Mathias, Lahaela, Zacchaeus, Sienna, Max, Morgan, Ava and Blake; and her sister, Patricia K. McDonald.
Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband, Arnold, on April 30, 1998; her grandsons: Joseph Arnold and James Patrick Kmetz; and her parents, Wallace and Mae MacDonald.

Mildred M. Lodle, age 76, of Ashland, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the Court Manor – Golden Living Center Nursing Home, in Ashland.
Milly was born, on December 15, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Sigfrid and Mary (Buvala) Gustafson. She and Donald Jack Lodle were united in marriage, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, in Ashland, on June 12, 1954.
Although she considered herself a housewife, she had been a secretary for both the Ondossagon and Ashland School Districts. She loved sports, travel and the out of doors. She was very involved with her family and, in particular, her grandchildren.
She is survived by: Jack, her husband of over 55 years; and their three children: Nancy Pufall and her husband, Dean, of Ashland; Janet Blake and her husband, Bob, of Superior, Wisconsin and David Lodle, of Menomonie, Wisconsin. Other survivors include: her five grandchildren: Tony Pufall and his wife, Mindy, Josh Pufall, Bryan Blake, Chris Blake and Britnee Blake; several nieces and nephews.
Milly was preceded in death by her parents, Sigfrid and Mary Gustafson and her brother, Dennis Gustafson.

Patricia was born, on February 1, 1950, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, the daughter of Edward F. and Lorraine J. (Halvorson) Monahan. She and James F. Ludwikoski were united in marriage, on January 13, 1969, in Ashland, Wisconsin. She was the assistant director for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, in Ashland, Wisconsin, for over 22 years.
Survivors include: James, her husband of 41 years, of Mason; her children: Brian Monahan, of Ashland; James ‘Jamie’ Ludwikoski, of Fargo, North Dakota; Kristin (Colin) Marincel, of Ashland; and Sharon Ludwikoski, of Madison, Wisconsin. Patricia is also survived by: four grandchildren: Chris Hanson, Matt Miller, Emma Ludwikoski and Jacob Ludwikoski; one sister, Shirley Joann (Sam) Taylor, of Elkton, Florida; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter-in-law, Amy Ludwikoski.

Patricia ‘Patsy’ C. Maday, Zhawasko Gesheegokwe or Auntie Pat as she was known to many, age 86 of Odanah, Wisconsin, passed to the spirit world on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Pat was born, on October 4, 1924, in Odanah, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Livingston) Moore. She and Raymond S. Maday were united in marriage, in Odanah, on Oct 16, 1944. She was a homemaker and owned and operated Maday’s Store, in Odanah, with her husband, Ray. She enjoyed: traveling, bingo, shopping, telling stories, cooking, baking and was the family and area historian. She was an accomplished wreath maker and along with her husband Ray, spent countless seasons gathering wild rice. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also served, for many years, on the Bad River Health Board.
Survivors include: her children: Mary Lou Salawater,of Odanah; Melvin (Sharon), of Ashland; Rae Ann Maday, of Odanah; Gail (Tom) Pufall, of Ashland; and Dorene Maday, of Odanah; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Pat is also survived by: special nieces: Patricia Neveaux, Darlene Hafeman and Sandy Brandt; a special nephew, Russell Spencer; many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ray (on July 28, 1999); her son, John “Spud”; great-granddaughter, Ava June Maday; her parents; sisters: Pearl Stone, Agnes LaFernier, Arvilla Gordon and Celia Spencer; brothers, Paul, Vincent, Hudson, Oliver, Andy, Ted and Ben Moore.

Helen Magnuson
Helen Magnuson, age 96, of Ashland, Wisconsin, died, at Golden Living Center-Court Manor, in Ashland, on Friday, January 23, 2009. She was born, on December 5, 1912, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of
Matthew and Hilma (Maki) Webster. She moved to Ashland, as a child, and has resided here since that time.
She and Herbert R. Magnuson were united in marriage, in Ashland, on August 3, 1936. He preceded her in death, on January 8, 1968.
For many years, Helen worked as a Nursing Assistant, at Saint Anthony’s Nursing Home and Court Manor Nursing Home, in Ashland. Helen was a recognized artist, and had sold many of her paintings and drawings. She had a love for all animals and had rescued many over the years.
Helen is survived by: her three daughters: Gail Magnuson-Rouskey; Carol Oesterreich and her husband, Kurt; and Lynn Frechette and her husband, Mike; all of Ashland, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Herbert; her sister, Betty Pylkki, her step-son, Herbert A. Magnuson and her grandson, Kent Oesterreich.
Helen’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Court Manor for the love and care Helen received over the past eight years. Many friendships were formed and many memories made.

Jon E. ‘Mag’ Magnuson
Jon E. ‘Mag’ Magnuson, age 53 of Ashland, WI passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Apr 13, 2011 at Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN.
Jon was born May 30, 1957 in Ashland, WI the son of Herbert A. and Lillian M. (Tukalek) Magnuson. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1975 after four years of playing on the basketball and football teams as well as playing golf. He attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth for two years before transferring to the University of Wisconsin in Superior. He graduated with a degree in Biology. He also played basketball while attending U.M.D. He was employed at Xcel Energy in Ashland at the Bayfront Plant in the maintenance department for over 31 years. He enjoyed hunting with the crew at the “Hot Box” every deer season. He loved fishing at the cabin, mowing the cabin lawn and boating with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay of Ashland; daughter, Kellie of Ashland; son, Luke of Ashland; sisters, Kim Hammond of Pewaukee, WI and Lori (Randall) Carlson of Mason, WI; mother-in-law, Gerry Kontny of Ashland; sister & brother-in-law, Jeanine and Zygmund Jablonski, Jr. of Ashland; nieces and nephews, Amanda, Kristi, Dan, Jennifer, Mary Jo, Gina and Zyggy; great-nieces and nephews, Julian, Ginneva, Sophia and Sonja; special cousin, Carol (Kurt) Oesterreich of Ashland; special friend, Steve “Bernzo” Parent of Ashland; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Casket bearers will include: Tom ‘Teko’ Kovach, John Yachinich, Joe Yachinich, Jay Emmert, Tom Lee and Steve ‘Bernzo’ Parent.
Interment will take place in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland, WI.

Paul Majetich
Paul Majetich, age 83, formerly Ashland, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, in his Fairbanks, Alaska home.
Paul was born, on October 14, 1928, in Mason, Wisconsin, the son of Paul and Barbara (Barkovich) Majetich. He and Marge Haugen were united in marriage, in Ashland, on February 19, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1984. In January of 1982 he was united in marriage to Jennifer Olson in Alaska. He was employed, for many years, in the maintenance department of area hospitals before he moved to Alaska.
Survivors include: his wife, Jennifer, of Fairbanks, Alaska; children: Paul (Barbara), of Ashland; Jerome (Mary), of Ashland; Patricia (Gil) Bowers, of Ashland; Dennis (Michele), of Ashland; Janet (Bryan) Doty, of Columbus, Ohio; Debra (David) Lucius, of Ashland; John (Rosemary), of Ashland; Radonna Majetich, of Ashland; Rebecca (David) Anderson, of Ashland; William of Fairbanks, Alaska; and Emerald (Jason) Stormont, of California; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Emil (Suzy), of Virginia Beach, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by: his first wife, Marge; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 and continuing until the hour of the service.

Catherine A. Margenau, age 84 of 813 Vaughn Avenue, Ashland, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Ashland.
Catherine was born, on April 8, 1925, in Ashland, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Heyne) Dufek. She was a graduate of DePadua High School, in Ashland. She and LeRoy C. Margenau were united in marriage, in Ashland,, on June 30, 1945. She was a homemaker, a nurses aid at area hospitals and the activities director at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Ashland. Catherine was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland, and a volunteer at the Thrift Shop and the Senior Center.
Survivors include: LeRoy, her husband of 64 years; and their two sons: James Margenau and his wife, Peggy, of Hudson, Wisconsin and Terry Margenau and his wife, Lorna, of Spooner, Wisconsin. Catherine is also survived by: eight grandchildren: Melanie Margenau, Amanda Margenau, Molly Margenau, Laci Eberle, Cole Margenau, Eric Margenau, Caitlin Fielding and Desi Fiedling; her sister, Barbara Perrault, of Ishpeming, Michigan; her brother, Robert Dufek, of Ashland; many nieces and nephews.
Catherine was preceded in death by: her parents, Charles and Emma Dufek; two sisters: Mary Millard and Helen Lulich and two brothers: Joseph Dufek and her twin brother, Carl Dufek.

LeRoy C. Margenau, age 88, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2011 in his Ashland, Wisconsin, home.
LeRoy was born on February 4, 1923, in Ashland, the son of Chester and Elizabeth (Jensen) Margenau. He graduated from Ashland High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and Catherine A. Dufek were united in marriage, in Ashland, on June 30, 1945. He was a firefighter for the City of Ashland from 1950 until his retirement in 1982.
Survivors include: his sons: James (Peggy), of Hudson, Wisconsin; and Terry (Lorna), of Spooner, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Melanie, Amanda, Molly, Laci, Cole, Eric, Caitlin & Desi and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Catherine, on October 11, 2009, and his parents.
A Gathering, for family and friends, and a celebration of LeRoy’s life will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Interment in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Ashland, will immediately follow.

Rita A. Marincel, age 87, of Ashland, Wisconsin, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Golden Living Center ~ Court Manor, in Ashland.
Rita was born, on Mary 31, 1920, in Murry, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herman and Florence (Bigeau) LeBlanc. She and Steven Marincel were united in marriage. Rita was a seamstress of the Munsingwear Company, in Ashland, for over 35 years and a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, of Ashland.
Rita is survived by her brother, Joseph LeBlanc and his wife, Sylvia, of Huntsville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Herman and Florence LeBlanc; her husband, Steven; three brothers and four sisters.
A visitation will begin, at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, and continue until the hour of the service.

Florence L. Markee
Florence L. Markee, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, in her Mellen, Wisconsin home.
Florence was born, on September 9, 1920, in Highbridge, Wisconsin, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Carlson) Katon. She attended grade school in Highbridge, and graduated from Mellen High School with the class of 1938.
Florence worked at the Penokee Veneer plant, for two years.
She and Kenneth Markee were united in marriage, at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, in Highbridge, on August 26, 1944. Florence was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Mellen, the Church’s Alter Sodality and the Card Club, in Mellen. She loved: cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
Florence is survived by: Kenneth, her husband of 66 years; and their four sons: Ken (Ardell) Markee, of Colstrip, Montana; Jim Markee, of Mellen; Tom (Susan) Markee, of Superior, Wisconsin; and Mark (Lori) Markee, of Mosinee, Wisconsin. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; her two brothers: Albert Katon, and Jack (Pat) Katon, all of Ashland, Wisconsin; her three sisters: Ardith Pufall, and Carol Marx, of Duluth, Minnesota; and Janice (Raymond) Michel, of Mellen; many nieces and nephews.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Mellen, Wisconsin, beginning at 10 a.m., Friday, January 21, 2011, and continuing until the hour of the service.

Robert ‘Mucka’ Markeson
Robert ‘Mucka’ Markeson, age 56, of Ashland, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at his home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born, on November 6, 1952, in Ashland, the son of Daniel and Theresa (Phillips) Markeson. He and Rebecca S. Jensen were united in marriage, in Seymour, Wisconsin, on July 5, 1991. He moved back to Ashland, from Reno, Nevada, in 2001, purchased and operated the Casa Loma Tavern, later known as Bob and Becca’s Packer Inn. For a time, Bob was also the chef at the Bad River Casino. He enjoyed: hunting, playing pool, watching movies, and playing cards, but his greatest joy was his family, especially his granddaughters, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include: his wife, Rebecca, of Savannah, Georgia; his two daughters: Jennifer Lowery and her husband, Steven, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Sarah Castro and her husband, Larry, of Peoria, Arizona and his mother, Theresa Markeson, of Ashland. Mucka is also survived by: two very special granddaughters: Mia and Juliet Lowery; his two sisters: Patricia Kastern and her husband, Jerry, of Ashland and Sharlyne Agostine, of Seymour; and two brothers: Dennis Markeson and his wife, Lynette, of Kirksville, Missouri and Donald Markeson and his special friend, Kathy, of Leirester, North Carolina. Other survivors include: several dear nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; and David Mitchen and his wife, Shaka, who have been special friends for forty-two years.
Bob was preceded in death by: his father, Daniel Markeson; his brother, William ‘Chili’ Markeson and a nephew, Jason Agostine.

Donna Lou Martin
Donna Lou Martin, age 78, of Ashland, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland. She was born, on April 14, 1932, in Ashland, the daughter of the Late Louis and Rose (Kull) Belsky.
Donna graduated from Depadua High School, in 1950. She married Harold (Hudda) Martin in 1953.
Donna worked at: Munsingwear from 1950 to 1955; and the Ashland School system, for twenty-nine years, until her retirement.
Donna’s favorite things to do were: fishing, blueberry picking, traveling abroad, spending time in the woods, spending time at the cabin in Iron River, and spending time with her family. She always put everyone first, before herself. She was a very caring and loving person. She was not only a wonderful mother, but her children’s ‘best friend‘. Donna was a very devoted grandma and was adored by her grandchildren. Donna was very active and enjoyed the outdoors and walking everywhere. She especially enjoyed her last vacation, in December 2010, with her family, in Florida. She will be greatly and sadly missed, by her family and friends, but never forgotten.
She is survived by her two children: Lynn (Larry) Grande, of Ashland; Scott (Shauna) Martin, of Siren, Wisconsin; and Carol Masters, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Tony Martin, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Chad Martin, of Eau Claire; Brock Martin, of Eau Claire; Austyn Grande, of Ashland; Dustyn Grande, of Ohio; Jordyn Grande, of Ashland; Tadjia Willis, of Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin; and April (Jose) Collazo, of Cary, North Carolina; two great grandchildren; her sister, Joan (Don) Pagels; and her brother, Bob (June) Belsky.
She was preceded in death by: her infant son, Joseph; her son, Larry (who died on April 4, 2002); her parents; and a special friend, Ted Bourgouis.

Margery (Kutin) Mataya
Margery (Kutin) Mataya, age 91, of Iron River, Wisconsin, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at the Memorial Medical Center, Ashland, Wisconsin.
Margery was born on December 15, 1917, in Woodward, Iowa, the daughter of John and Agnes (Raspet) Kutin. She was reared in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School.
Margery married Raymond Frank Mataya,. on September 21, 1940. To this union no children were born.
For twenty-one years, Ray and Marge owned and operated the R&M Hardware Retail Store in Iron River. They retired in 1973, and made their home, on Eagle Lake in the Delta, Wisconsin, area.
Preceding Margery in death were: her husband, Raymond (1990) and her parents: John, (1953) and Agnes, (1960). Also preceded her in death were: her two brothers: John Kutin, Jr. (1993) and Anthony Kutin(1912) and four sisters Rose Martincic (1970), Woodward, Iowa; Mary Welander (2004), Green Bay, Wisconsin; Jenny Kocur (2004), and Agnes Stefani (1994), both of Des Moines, Iowa; her niece: Margaret (Martincic) Bunker (1970) and grandnephew Todd Bunker (1970), of Des Moines, Iowa.
Margery is survived by: her sister, Virginia Korpi and her husband, Arthur, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; eight nieces: Helen Bice and her husband, Darrel, of Woodward, Iowa; Pat Lane and Nancy Stefani, of Des Moines, Iowa; Janice Vanderwall and her husband, Robert, of Puyallup, Washington; Joyce Riley and her husband, Michael, of West Des Moines, Iowa; Kathy Madson and her husband, Chris, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Khira Korpi, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Bernadine DeLap, of Sussex, Wisconsin; and three nephews: Joseph Martincic and his wife, Dennie, of Beaverton, Oregon; William Rapolz, of Ashland, Wisconsin; and Albert Kocur, Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Des Moines, Iowa; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Since 1950, Margery has been an active member of Saint Michael’s Parish, in Iron River, and a member of the Church Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the White River Homemakers, of Delta, Wisconsin.
Margery donated her time to many worthwhile projects in her life.
Her nephews will be Aunt Marge’s honorary pallbearers: William Rapolz, Darrold Bice, Joseph Martincic, Robert Vanderwall, Chris Madson and Albert Kocur, Jr.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March, 19, 2009, at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Iron River. Father Michael Crisp and Deacon Michael E. Riley, her nephew, will officiate.
Inurnment will be in the Woodward Cemetery, in Woodward, Iowa, on a day and at a time that have yet to be determined.
Donations to St. Michael’s Altar and Rosary Society are preferred in lieu of flowers or a Mass memorial.

Alex E. Mathey
Alex E. Mathey, age 97, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Riverview Golden Living Center, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He was born, on July 11, 1911, the son of Charles and Elsie (Faude) Mathey. His early life and schooling were in Medford, Wisconsin. He and Florence, Schumacher were united in marriage, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on April 17, 1937. In 1946, they moved to Clam Lake, Wisconsin, where they built and, for thirty years, operated Mathey’s Pine Point Resort. He was also employed, for over 25 years, by the U.S. Forest Service. He was a Mason and member of a member of the Ancient Landmark Lodge, number 0210, of Ashland, Wisconsin; the Scottish Rite; the Zor Shrine; and the Flambeau Clowns, of Park Falls; and the Order of the Easter Star; Mellen Lions Club and the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Mellen, Wisconsin.
Survivors include: his two daughters: Julene Rein and her husband, Dan, of New Braunfels, Texas; and Janet McCloud and her husband, Clint, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; and his son, Ray Mathey and his wife, Bev, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He is also survived by: two brothers: Eugene Mathey and his wife, Elly, of Westboro, Wisconsin and Charles Mathey and his wife, Norine, of Woodstock, Illinois; three sisters: Ruth Thomas and her husband, Charles, of Menomonie, Wisconsin; Alice Levenhagen and her husband, Nick, of West Bend, Wisconsin and Fern Crenshaw, of Bend, Oregon; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews and friends.
Alex was preceded in death by: his parents, Charles and Elsie Mathey; his wife, Florence; their daughter, Jill; two sisters: Bertha Garland and Delores Linzner and one nephew, James Linzner.
A memorial service will be held, at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Mellen. Reverend James Imse will officiate.
Internment in the Clam Lake Cemetery, Clam Lake, Wisconsin, will take place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2009.

Robert G. Mathiowetz
Robert G. Mathiowetz, age 89, of 1208 10th Avenue West, Ashland, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland.
Bob was born, on December 12, 1918, in Ashland, the son of John and Mary (Trauirg) Mathiowetz. He was a 1937 graduate of DePadua High School, in Ashland. He and Emma A. Zar were united in marriage, on October 4, 1941, in Ashland. Bob served with the U.S. Army, in the European theatre of operations, during World War II. For a short time after the war, he worked for the Quearm Oil Company, in Ashland. Thereafter, and until his retirement, he owned and operated Mathiowetz Mobil and the Harbor Motel, in Ashland. He was a member, and past Grand Knight, of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of: the Chequamegon Area Veterans, the Eagles Club and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. His true passion was music. He played: the trumpet, harmonica, button accordion, piano, chordovox and concertina. He brought great joy to many people in the area with his polka and other types of music. The Concertina Congress inducted him into the Concertina Hall of Fame, in West Bend, Indiana. For many years, he and Emma wintered in Mission, Texas.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Linda J. Mattson
Linda J. Mattson, age 59, of 63256 Vista Road, Marengo, Wisconsin, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at her home, with her loving family near her side, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Linda was born, on March 8, 1950, in Ashland, Wisconsin, the daughter of Felix and Irene (York) Schmidt. Linda was united in marriage to Merritt E. Mattson, in Ashland, on September 12, 1970. A homemaker, she enjoyed: gardening, baking, sewing, quilting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland.
Survivors include: Merritt Mattson, her husband of 38 years; their two sons: Robert Mattson, of Ashland; and Michael Mattson and his wife, Kandace, of Marengo; and one daughter, Sarah Oliphant and her husband, Jared, of Marengo. She was laso survived by: nine grandchildren: Michael Mattson, David Mattson, Meg Mattson, Angela Mattson, Sophie Mattson, Matti Mattson, Maisi Mattson, Cody Oliphant and Jasmine Oliphant; her mother, Irene Schmidt, of Ashland; three sisters: Judy Erickson and her husband, Carl, of Ashland; Kathy Schwiesow and her husband, John, of Ashland; and Barbara Richardson and her husband, Thomas, of Sanborn, Wisconsin; one brother, John Schmidt and his wife, JoAnne, of Ashland; many nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by: her father, Felix and her nephew, Tony Richardson.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, for Linda Mattson, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. Father Henry V. Stephanie Ellias – Matusiewicz – Ferkovich
Stephanie Ellias – Matusiewicz – Ferkovich, age 81, of Mellen, Wisconsin, died on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Mellen Manor Nursing Home, in Mellen.
Stephanie was born, on August 14, 1928, in Mellen, the daughter of Alexander and Anna (Mesko) Ellias. She and Virgil F. Matusiewicz were united in marriage, in Mellen, on July 27, 1946. Virgil preceded her in death, on May 22, 1990. She and Leroy S. Ferkovich were united in marriage, on September 27, 1997. For over 28 years, Stephanie worked as a quality grader, at the Veneer Mill, in Mellen. She was a very active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Mellen. Stephanie enjoyed: being a member of the Red Hat Society, singing in the community choir and marching, with the Grannies marching troop, in the Fourth of July parade and volunteering at the Thrift Shop, in Mellen, every week. The apples of her eye were her grandsons, whom she loved very much.
Survivors include: her son, Stephen Matusiewicz and his wife, LeAnna, of Rochester, Minnesota; and her two grandsons: Nathan P. Matusiewicz and his wife, Ruby, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Brandon S. Matusiewicz and his wife, Molly, of Rochester. Stephanie is also survived by: her two sisters: Pauline Hanson, of Superior, Wisconsin; and Rose Brown, of Mellen; and three brothers: Peter Ellias and his wife, Nancy; Michael Ellias and his wife, Peggy; and Charles Ellias and his wife, Romona, all of Mellen. Other survivors include: her five step-daughters: Lola Haag and her husband, John, of Ojai, California; Marisue Casha, of Orange, California; Nancy Becker, of Mellen; Donna Bedard, of Fullerton, California and Diane Ferkovich of Orange; many nieces and nephews.
Stephanie was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, Virgil; her second husband, Leroy, on December 28, 2009; three brothers: George Ellias, Alec Ellias and John Ellias; and three sisters: Ann Clement, Mary Polencheck and Helen Toldness.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Mellen, beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010, and continuing until the hour of service.

Ewell James ‘Joe’ McAbee
Ewell James ‘Joe’ McAbee, age 64, passed away, in his home, in Marengo, Wisconsin, on Friday, September 24, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe was born, on March 16, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, to William Joseph and Dorothy Eileen (Miller) McAbee. Joe spent his early childhood in Des Moines. Joe, his parents and siblings, moved to Burnett County, Wisconsin, in 1955. Joe attended Frederic High School, where he participated in sports. His senior year, he led the High School basketball team to the State Tournament, in Madison, Wisconsin. At that tournament, he set a state tournament record for shooting percentage that still stands.
After high school, Joe attended River Falls State College and in 1965, married Starr Smith. Joe joined the River Falls Police Department. In 1970, he left the Department to become a construction worker. Joe later became a locomotive engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1980, the company transferred Joe to Wyoming, where he met and married his current wife, Joyce. Joe and his family moved to Marengo, Wisconsin, in 1988. Joe worked for the Wisconsin Central and then the Canadian National Railroad, until the time of his illness.
Joe enjoyed: the outdoors, hunting, woodworking and helping friends and family with projects. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by: his wife, Joyce McAbee; his daughters: Renee McAbee, Holly McAbee, and Amber (Mike) McAbee; his son, Nathan McAbee; his step daughters: Carolyn (Vince) Cernohous, Rebecca Polencheck, and Heather Frazon; and former son-in-law, Hank Polencheck. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren: Adrian Mattson, Ariane Mattson, Mike McAbee, Cody Cernohous, Nicole Cernohous, Wyatt Polencheck, Alexis Polencheck, Mason Polencheck, and Sawyer Miller; his step-mother, Margaret McAbee; his sisters: Jeanine Connolly, and Elizabeth Noseworthy; his brothers: Brad (Joyce) McAbee, and William Joseph McAbee; his step-sisters: Marlene Goshong and Sharon Herron; his step brothers: Verle Hacker, Myron (Sandy) Hacker, and Kenny (Mona) Hacker; his aunts: Marion Miller, and Edna Utley; as well as many nieces, nephews and many special friends too numerous to mention.
Joe was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, Ewell and Anna Miller; his paternal grandparents, James and Susan McAbee; his parents, William McAbee and Dorothy Hacker; his step-father, Karl Hacker; his brother, William McAbee and step-brother, Allen Hacker.
At Joe’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

James C. McBrair
James C. McBrair, age 68, of Iron River, Wisconsin, died Friday, December 5, 2008, following a brief illness.
Known as ‘Mac’ or ‘Butch’ to his family and many friends, James was born on February 5, 1940, to James and June McBrair, of Plainfield, Wisconsin. He graduated from Tri-County High School, in Plainfield, and attended U.W. Wisconsin-Madison. He and his wife, Mary Collins McBriar, owned and operated the Ideal Lounge and Cafe, in Iron River, for 20 years. His devoted wife for 26 years, Mary also became a step mother to his youngest daughter, Kathleen. Mac was a long-standing member of the Tavern League of Wisconsin and over the course of the years, participated in many community events.
Survivors include: his four daughters: Cheryl Lowe and her husband, Pat, of Knippa, Texas; Connie Kaehn and her husband, Arlyn, of Bancroft, Wisconsin; Kathleen McBrair, of Iron River; and Kristie Chesebro, of Delavan, Wisconsin. He is also survived by: one brother, Daniel McBrair, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; two sisters: Patricia Harrington and her husband, Max, of Plainfield and Colleen Altenberg and her husband, Tom, of Crawford, Florida; and a special nephew, Christopher McBrair, of Sheboygan; along with several cousins; nieces and nephews; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, James L. McBrair, and his parents.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Iron River VFW Hall, in Iron River.
Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery, on a day and at a time that have yet to be determined.

Frank R. ‘Roger’ McCorison
Frank R. ‘Roger’ McCorison, age 86, formerly of Clam Lake, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Ashland Wisconsin. He was born, on September 15, 1924, in Barron, Wisconsin, the son of Frank Edgar and Maude Pearl (Rogers) McCorison. During WWII, Roger served with the United States Navy, from 1943 until 1945.
He and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ann Fleury were united in marriage, on February 15, 1947, in Dundee, Illinois. When Roger retired from the Kenosha, Wisconsin, Unified School District, after many years of service, he and Betty moved back up to Clam Lake. Roger worked for the Forestry Service and as custodian for the Glidden School District. He was a life member of American Legion Post 247, of Glidden; a life member of the USS Alabama Association; and a member of the Danish Brotherhood, in Kenosha. Roger enjoyed: fishing, bird hunting, and golfing.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Betty, on July 2, 2004; his parents, and his brother, Byron.
Survivors include: 4 daughters: Kathy (Richard) Arias, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Karen McCorison, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Elaine (Patrick) Collins, Homosassa, Florida; and Mary Jane McCorison, of Glidden, Wisconsin; 8 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Dannie) Erickson, Corey (Michelle Schlaiss) Hansen, Chad (April) Hansen, Rachael Collins, Garrett Collins, Shannon Collins, Samantha Tetzlaff, and Stephanie Tetzlaff; and 5 great grandchildren: Ariel Schonscheck, Damion Erickson, Joseph ‘Joey’ Hansen, Allie Hansen, and Sebastian Erickson. Other survivors include: his sister-in-law, Alice McCorison, of Glidden; his aunt, Dorothy McCorison, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and a special friend, Dave Ramon.

Julieonha Ruby McCracken, age 17 months, of Ashland, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at her home, with her loving family near her side.
Julieonha was born, on July 14, 2009, in Ashland, the daughter of Charles R. and Crystal L. (Osness) McCracken. She was a little angel to everyone she came into contact with, always with a smile. The love she brought when everyone was together was amazing. Her big sister loved and took very good care of her. We all know she is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, his newest little angel.

Frank T. ‘Ted’ McKay, Jr.
Frank T. ‘Ted’ McKay, Jr., age 53, of 71917 County Highway C, Highbridge, Wisconsin, died Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Saint Mary’s Medical Center, in Duluth, Minnesota.
Frank was born, on April 21, 1955, in Ashland, Wisconsin, the son of Frank T. and Joyce A. (Sorel) McKay. He graduated, with the class of 1973, from Mellen High School. He and Marilyn K. Hicken were united in marriage, in Mellen, He was united in marriage, on September 3, 1977. For over 27 years, he was employed at the Veneer Mill, in Mellen, and was a member, and captain, of the Mellen Fire Department, for over 30 years. He also served as an EMT for the Department. He was a member, and past president, of the Mellen Lions Club and served, under his father, in the Lion’s district cabinet. He enjoyed being part of the ski patrol at White Cap Mountain, was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman.
Survivors include: Marilyn McKay, his wife of 31 years; his mother, Joyce McKay, of Mellen; four children: Brian McKay and his wife, Kailey Feyereisen, of Verona, Wisconsin; Michael McKay and his wife, Melissa Lutz, of Madison, Wisconsin; Eric McKay, of Sparta, Wisconsin and Traci McKay of Highbridge. He is also survived by: two brothers: James McKay and his wife, Teri, of Sparta, Wisconsin; and Greg McKay and his wife, Tawny, of Mellen; his sister, Vickie McKay-Czarnecki and her husband, Bernie, of Sparta; several nieces and nephews and his canine companions, Lexie and Blue.
He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Amy McKay and his father, Frank McKay.

Mary was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, on April 4, 1937, the daughter of George R. and Josephine P. (Gerbozy) Moravchik. She was a 1955 graduate of Ondossagon School. She and James J. Meierotto were united in marriage at Saint Florian Catholic Church, in Ino, Wisconsin, on June 1, 1957.
Mary was a member of Saint Anthony Church, in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin. She enjoyed: reading, cooking, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by: her husband, James, of Brule; and their six children: Catherine (Robert) Berube, of Iron River, Wisconsin; Shirlann (Paul) Biser, of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Patricia (Matt) Stockwell, of Rochester, Minnesota; James (Jamie) Meierotto, of Wassilla, Alaska; Susan (Dan) O’Kash, of Mesquite, Texas; and Raymond (Chirstie) Meierotto, of Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin. Other survivors include: eight grandchildren: Paul Dahlby, Mike Dahlby, Alex O’Kash, Dan O’Kash, Brandon Biser, Stephanie Biser; Phillip Stockwell and Sara Stockwell; two brothers: Joseph (Carol) Moravchik, and M. Thomas (Nancy) Moravchik, all of Mason, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by: her twins, who died in infancy; her parents; and her brother, George Moravchik.

Sister Joyce Miller, F.S.P.A.
Sister Joyce Miller, F.S.P.A., age 71, died Monday, September 7, 2009, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Sister Joyce was born, on October 24, 1937, the daughter of Laurence and Winifred (Lyons) Miller in Ashland, Wisconsin. She taught elementary and high school for a total of 15 years and served as a Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry for 15 years. Sister Joyce was Director of Release Time Religious Program for the Consolidated Saint Croix Valley, in Stillwater, from 1989 until 1992. She joined Harcourt Religion Publishers as a Religious Education Consultant, in 1998, and gave workshops all over the country.
Sister Joyce is survived by: her Franciscan Community; two sisters: Pat Szafarz and Donna Method; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers.
A visitation, for family and friends began at 3:15 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009, at St. Rose Convent, in La Crosse and featured a 6:30 p.m. prayer service in the Mary of the Angels Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2009, in the chapel.
Her interment was in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.

Susan A. Miller, age 72, of 1624 Ninth Avenue West, Ashland, Wisconsin, died peacefully, in her home, on Saturday, July 25, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.
Susan was born, on October 20, 1936, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Wesley and Emily (Girardi) Asprooth. She graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School in 1954. She also graduated from Edgewood College, in Madison, Wisconsin and Rockford College, in Rockford, Illinois. She taught at Saint Patrick’s Grade School for five years.
She and George Miller were united in marriage, in Rockford, on June 24, 1961. She has lived in Superior, Wisconsin; Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Ashland, Wisconsin. She and George owned and operated North Country IGA, in Ashland, for over 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, with her husband, especially to Yellowstone National Park. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends and family. Her hobbies included: beading, quilting and working on her computer. She had a special place in her heart for her children and grandchildren. Sue will be remembered for her kind, supportive and caring ways.
Survivors include: George, her husband of 48 years; their three children: Cindy Gilbertson and her husband, Steve, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Daniel Miller and his wife, Nadine, of Ashland and Patrick Miller and his wife, Deb, of Wadena, Minnesota. She is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren: Kirk Gilbertson, Jace Gilbertson, Bryce Miller, Walker Miller, Maury Miller, Nicole Miller, Austin Miller and Brooke Miller and two sisters: Mary Moser and her husband, George, of Durand, Illinois and Elizabeth Cragan and her husband, John, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by: her step brother, John Owens and his wife, Ann, of Rockford; three sisters-in-law: Anna Mae Sbraggia and her husband, Gene, of Montreal, Wisconsin; Patricia Klobucher and Charlene Lajcak and her husband, Tom, of Ashland; numerous nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by: her parents; stepfathers: Maury Owens and William Lamps; mother-in-law, Ann Miller; father-in-law, Joseph Miller; two sisters-in-law: Virginia Miller and Sylvia Miller; and two brothers-in-law: William Miller and Tom Klobucher.
A gathering, for family and friends, will begin at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009, in the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland, and continue until the hour of the service.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. Father Henry V. Willenborg, O.F.M., will be the Celebrant.
A private family interment will be held on a day and at a time that have not yet been determined.

Veronica Agnes Miron
Veronica Agnes Miron, age 87, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland, Wisconsin, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born, on January 3, 1921, in Ashland, to Benjamin and Bernice (Leciejewski) Blaszkowski. She attended DePadau High School and Gordon Business College.
Veronica worked at Woolworths and Garnish Hardware, in Ashland, before moving to Milwaukee, in 1943, to accept a position as a stenographer and auditor for IRS. While living in Milwaukee, she met her future husband. She and Clifford T. Miron were united in marriage, on November 27, 1945, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Ashland. The Mirons moved to Ashland, in 1957, where Veronica worked as a housewife, and raised three children.
She eventually returned to the business world, taking a position as bookkeeper and sales person, at the Robert Oien Furniture Store, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Vernie took great pleasure in tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed garage sales and could often be seen at the Church bazaars.
Veronica was preceded in death by: her husband, Clifford, on March 1, 1997, and her parents: Benjamin Blaszkowski, on January 5, 1948 and her mother, Bernice Blaszkowski, on March 12, 2003.
Veronica is survived by: her two sons: Gary Miron, of Ashland; Alan Miron and his wife, Yvonne, of Edina, Minnesota; and one daughter, Mary Jolma and her husband, Charles, of Appleton, Wisconsin. Vernie is also survived by: her sister, Lucille Godleski, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and two brothers: Eugene Blaszkowski and his wife, Virginia, and Robert Blaszkowski and his wife, Beverly, both of Ashland. Other survivors include: two granddaughters: Laura Miron and Michele Brodbeck and her husband, Ryan; and their mother, Eileen Davis and her husband, Charles. Survivors also include: five nieces and seven nephews: Marie Keena and her husband, Bob Vlasaty; Patricia Miller and her husband, Richard; David Blaszkowski and his wife, Linda; Therese Pfeiffer; Brian Blaszkowski and his wife, Carrie; Barbara Beeksma and her husband, Kurt; Robert Blaszkowski and his wife, Margaret; Joseph Godleski; Robert Godleski; Mary Kopen and her husband, Douglas; David Godleski and Peter Bock and his wife, Kathleen.
The visitation, from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, will feature a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 201 Lake Shore Drive East, Ashland. Father Frank Folino, O.F.M. will be the celebrant. The casket bearers will include: Peter Bock, Alan Miron, Gary Miron, Brian Blaszkowski, Robert Blaszkowski and Charles Jolma.
Interment, in the Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland, will follow the Mass.
A luncheon, in the Church Social Hall, will follow the burial.

Father Conan Mitchell, O.F.M.
Father Conan Mitchell, O.F.M., age 93, of Ashland, Wisconsin, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Golden Living Center – Court Manor, in Ashland. He was born, July 13, 1915, the son of John and Elizabeth (Jacobinas) Mitchell. His birth name was Anthony, later changed to Conan, after being received into the Franciscan Order. He was Baptized, on August 1, 1915, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Ashland and Confirmed, on August 29, 1930, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, in Ashland. Father Conan had ten brothers and sisters, of whom seven have preceded him in death; Joseph, Anne, Edward, John, Victor, Frank and Henry. He is survived by three sisters: Theresa Stroshane, of Ashland; Helen Regan and Ruth Sukopp, as well as many nieces and nephews.
On August 20, 1940, Father Conan made his solemn profession in Teutopolis, Illinois; and he was ordained a priest, on June 24, 1943, also in Teutopolis. Father Conan was in parish ministry all his priestly life. For more than 50 years, he served in parishes in: Chicago and Joliet, Illinois; Indianapolis, Indiana; Eureka, Missouri; Muskegon, Michigan; Jordon and Chaska, Minnesota; and finally his home parish, in Ashland, Wisconsin. Father Conan had been residing in Ashland since 1991. Even after a stroke forced his retirement to Court Manor, he continued to say daily Mass there for several years.
Father Conan will be remembered as: a joyful person, grateful of all God’s blessings; having a deep reverence for Mary, the mother of Jesus; a follower of the ideals of Saint Francis of Assisi and an ordained priest dedicated to ministry. He never complained when a sick call came in; he would leave immediately for the hospital or person’s home. He was present at hundreds of liturgies, funerals and baptisms at Our Lady of the Lake Church, over a span of more than ten years. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and acted as chaplain for the Knights of Columbus. He appreciated and encouraged the good works the Knights did in the parish and the community.
Father Conan will also be remembered for his dedication to Catholic education. Almost daily he could be seen visiting classrooms or the social hall when school was in session. Every month he would preside over a “birthday baptism’ liturgy for children. Each year Father Conan would give second graders, preparing for First Communion, a gift of an angel figurine. Father Conan also started a penny fund, which brought in several thousand dollars each year, to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School. He was grateful that as a child, Saint Agnes allowed his family to attend school even though they had little money. Saint Agnes was changed to Our Lady of the Lake in 1990. His penny fund was a way to show his gratitude. He could be seen in the social hall every Tuesday evening, collecting money for his special fund. To may close friends he was known as ‘Uncle Tony’ or ‘Father Tony’. He was an avid fisherman, who loved fishing on the ‘rippling waters of Chequamegon Bay’. Father Conan was an active letter writer. For many years he would send close to 600 Christmas cards and letters to friends and relatives. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and spending time with his sister, Theresa.

Lawrence J. ‘Larry’ Mocello
Lawrence J. ‘Larry’ Mocello, age 84 of Ashland, WI passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Golden Living Center-Court Manor in Ashland.
Lawrence was born October 4, 1926 in Moquah, WI the son of John and Rose (Bednar) Mocello. On June 9, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helen T. Kuklenski at Ashland. He was employed by the School District of Ashland as a maintenance supervisor for over 32 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte (Carl) Santama of Wausau, WI; his son, Gerald (Marian) of Fifield, WI; three grandchildren, Craig Mocello, Lisa (Mark) Sigmund and Allen Santama; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Kindal; one sister, Margaret Picak of Chicago, IL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen on Oct 1, 2003, one brother and six sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Larry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland with Father Paul Paré, O.F.M. as celebrant. His casket bearers will include: John Augustine, Craig Mocello, Lisa Sigmund, Allen Santama, Jerome Hudak, and Ted Hudak.
Interment will take place in Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland, WI.

Julie Ann Moore
Julie Ann Moore, age 45, of Ashland, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at the Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland. She had battled cancer for over a year, and was a fighter right up to the end. Her will to live and the love of her family gave Julie the strength to fight her cancer.
Julie was born, on May 17, 1965, in Spooner, Wisconsin, the daughter of Thruman and Joyce (Brimblecom) Sauleen. She graduated, top of her class, from Spooner High School, class of 1983. She married Robert D. Moore, at the Holy Family Church, in Ashland, on May 21, 1988. Julie was employed at the Evergreen Country Shopper in the advertising department for many years. She also was the editor of the Vintage Times. She enjoyed her work and loved visiting with her clients. Julie dearly loved and adored her two children. She loved to write and garden. She enjoyed life and got a lot of joy out of little things. She didn’t need a lot to make her happy and knew how to be happy with the smaller things in life. She never complained and always had a smile on her face. She will be missed by her family and all those who knew her.
Survivors include: her mother, Joyce Sauleen, of Trego, Wisconsin; her husband of 22 years, Robert, of Ashland; her children: Ashley and Michael, of Ashland; her brother, Adam Sauleen, of Trego; two sisters: Dawn Gentsch, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Kim (Tom) Dowdy, of Wicks, Arkansas; her mother-in-law, Rita (Ralph Leciejewski) Moore, of Ashland; three brothers-in-law: John (Mary) Moore and Bill (Amy Kurtz) Moore, of Ashland, and Jim (Venecia) Moore, of Vernon, Texas; her sister-in-law, Joan (David) Kovach, of Ashland; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Thruman and her grandmother, Gladys Sauleen.
A gathering, for family and friends, will begin at 3 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2010, at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland and continue until the hour of service.

Mary Ann Motel
Mary Ann Motel, age 78, of Mason, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at the Golden Living Center-Court Manor in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Mary was born, on March 14, 1932, in Delta, Wisconsin, the daughter of John J. and Margaret V. (Gerbozy) Brilla. She and William P. Motel were united in marriage, in Ino, Wisconsin, on July 10, 1952. She was a homemaker and, along with her family, operated a dairy farm. She enjoyed berry picking, and gardening and was a member of the Saint Florian’s Alter Society.
Survivors include: her children: William R., of Mason, Wisconsin; Mary C. (Jeff) Noack, of Wausau, Wisconsin; Robert L., of Mason; Edward J., of Mason; and Alice A. (K.C.) Cadotte, of Washburn, Wisconsin; and her grandchildren: Breanna, Suzanna, Christina, Cody, Laurel, Collin and Ethan. Mary Ann is also survived by: two brothers: Thomas J. Brilla, of Mason; and Stephen B. (Trudy) Brilla, of Mason; one sister, Barbara (Frank) Oreskovich, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; her sisters-in-law: Margaret Brilla, of Mason; Shirley Brilla, of Milwaukee; and Dorothy Ziman, of Atwater, California; a brother-in-law, Tony Motel, of La Crosse, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, William; her parents; three brothers: Martin, Edward and Andrew Brilla; two sisters: Josephine Susienka, and Celestine Pristash; her sister-in-law, Christine Brilla; and a brother-in-law, Simon Susienka.
A gathering, for family and friends, will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010, and continuing until the hour of service.
A Memorial Service, for Mary, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland. Deacon John Grek will officiate. Special music, as performed by Steve Piper, will include: ‘Be Not Afraid’, ‘Servant Song’ and ‘Take Me Home, Country Road’.
